Defining Fair Trade

I'm really excited to be working with the 4th year graduating students Ted Rogers School of Management. They are working on a marketing plan for Pure Blanks Organic Fashion. After they conducted a survey on organic clothing, I would like to share the results. Results where taken from 100 people:

1.Roughly 50% of people didn't know that organic clothing is costlier to produce as apposed to growing cotton the conventional way(with pesticides)
2.Most people are willing to pay more for organic clothing but don't know why it costs more...
and finally.....(drum rolls please....)
3. Most did NOT know what fair trade means.

So i just wanted to list a few point about the value of fair trade. It means exactly as what it says:

-it is all about making sure that products exported internationally from “developing” countries to “developed” countries are produced under fair conditions.
-That means promoting the payment of fair prices, safe and healthy working conditions and responsible environmental practices.

Why is fair trade important? Firstly if workers are not being paid fairly, we are indirectly taking advantage of people just so we can have what we want. If they are a third world country and not being paid fairly how will they eat and live.Imagine having to work over 8 hours a day in an unsafe and filthy factory. Not so nice is it? Be Fair

Just something to think about when you shop.

Free Ecofont

Ecofont is a free font which, thanks to its holes, uses 20% less ink than standard fonts. The Ecofont is a true type font and is compatible with all computer operating systems.

As the Ecofont is intended for printing, it is difficult to reproduce accurately on screen. It is best to download it and try it for yourself!

At smaller font sizes, the holes are virtually invisible, yet less ink is being used by your printer. At larger font sizes the holes are visible - which shows you care! The Ecofont is ideal for your huge amount of throwaway printing. Show your employees you care about the environment by printing internal literature using the Ecofont! You can download it free from the official site http://www.ecofont.eu/ecofont_en.html. It's that easy!

Hello!

I've been spending way to much time thinking about doing a blog.
I've finally decided to jump in. I want this blog to give ideas to people who may see themselves as eco-weak. Knowledge is power and I hope I can pass on what I am learning and discovering on to others. Before you know it, you might even be eco-chic.

Even if it may seem like a small change to you, over time small changes can add up.

It seems with this recession, many of us are being forced to reuse, recycle and rethink how "important" material things are to us. Having more doesn't create happiness.

Traveling back and forth from India, I've learned something very valuable. I've witnessed a large number of people who are poor and have very little. Yet they are very content. More does not=happiness.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you enjoy my blog!
